Hauraki Engineers.
Yesterday evening an experimental lecture was given to the Hauraki Engineers by Lieut. Denby of that corps. There was a large attendance of members, and very great interest manifested daring the proceedings, which included the explosion of a minature torpedo, in a tub of water; the torpedo battery was also set in motion. Several other interesting experiments concluded the lecture. Lieut. Denby announced that by next Friday evening he would have a small torpedo of another description ready, which would be placed in the water off the reclamation works, connected with the battery, and exploded when required. Before the parade was dismissed, Captain Small informed the members that the company would muster at 9 a.m. on the 9th (the birthday of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales),; when he had no doubt that for the credit ofj* the corps a large muster would be present. On behalf of the officers of the corps, ho had much pleasure in inviting the non-commissioned officers and sappers to dinner after parade on Tuesday. Men who wished to go on the four o'clock shift would get away in ample time.
