In the Legislative Council last night, the Clause of the Bail tray Company's bill, which would hare restricted the employment of the Chinese was rejected. Melboubne, This day.; Agitation for Ned Kelly. A meeting of 6,000 persons last night adopted a petition to the 'Governor for the reprieve of Ned Kelly. Mr Gaunson was the promotes of the agitation, and will present the petition to-day. : Several New Zealand residents now in Melbourne intend holding a banqmet at an early date. [Probably the promoters of this movement, are Mr Brodie and his Worship the Mayor.] >T . . Stdkby, Friday.; The produce markets remain unchanged. ' , t Brisbane, Friday. The Committee of Inquiry appointed to examine into the rail contract have made; their report, which is signed only by Ministerialists, and which relieved the Hon. A. H. Palmer, Colonial Secretary, and the Hon. Thomas Mcllwraith, Cold* nial Treasurer, from the charge of being contractors, and recommend that further enquiry be made in England into the. matter, which still remains unexplained. The Oppositionists protest against this course, asserting that Hemmant's allegations have been proved, and urge that a Royal Commission be sent to England forthwith.
