To Mb Gkaves Aicken, Chemist, Auckland. . Sib,—l have much pleasure in bearing testimony respecting the benefits 1 have derived by using your Compound Syrup of , Eucalyptus of Lime and Quinine. I have been a great sufferer for the last three years with .chest complaint, during which time I have been under the care of skilful medical men, both in New Zealand and the neighboring colonies, but cannot say I ever ex perienced any beneficial effects from their treatment. ' Last summer I commenced taking your Lime Mixture, and am happy to inform you that I have been steadily improving weekly ever since—notwithstanding two or three severe colds I have bad this winter— and am now almost free from complaint, and can safely say, undoubtedly it is the best medicine I have ever taken, and as a soothing expectorant not to be equalled. I give you my name and address, not for publication, but as a guarantee that what I state here is truthful, and Bhould you at any time wish to refer any person to me, I shall be most happy to inform them of the benefits to be derived from a fair trial of your invaluable mixture.— I am, &c. M.F.D. (The original letter may be seen on application.) Many others suffering irom Bronchial and Lung Complaints have borne witness to the unquestionable efficiency of in cases where the usual remedies have failed. The effect upon those afflicted with that dreadful disease CONSUMPTION, and its kindred cheat affections, is best described in the language of one who experienced benefit, as follows:—" After commencing the medicine the expectoration came away freely, my cough appeared to be naturally relieved, and I could then sleep at night, although it was impossible to get sleep previously—my chest seemed to have a weight lifted off it, and I could take a breath with freedom. My appetite is better, and I feel altogether stronger, and in a fair way to recover." This is literally the language of many who have tried the Syrup of Eucalyptus and Hypophosphites of Lime, and Quinine. This is a pharmaceutical preparation of genuine worth, deserving the cordial acceptance of the Faculty and the Public. Sou) in Bottles at 3s 6d Each. On all diseases arising from early indiscretions. On Gout. * On Rheumatism. : In these colonies those excesses, which we have indulged in " hot youth " tell upon us with fearful interest. Our regrets are useless, our repining! futile. The sole idea should be the chanoes we possess of remedying the ills we already ' have, for combatting the effects likely to result. Hide it as he may, put on as good an exterior as he can, still is the viotim conscious that he is a living lie, and that sooner or later his vices will discover him to the world. Our Faith, our obligations to society at large, the welfare of our future offspring, and the duty, we owe to ourselves forbids procrastination, and points out to us, not to wait till the. ravages break out in our constitutions. . Before negotiating with a merchant, before engaging with a confidential clerk; before employing a barrister, a careful man makes enquiries as their standing, their length of occupancy or residence; and, in the case of a legal adviser, both as to his legal qualifications and as to his capabilities of transacting the individual business he consults him upon. Strange to say, however, in the selection of a medical-man, the Bufferer frequently _opits these necessary precautions and without regard to the fitness, qualification, experience and ability for the particular ailment requiring treatment, he consults the nearest mant whose experience and practice, perhaps, lies in quite an opposite direction. Is it astftnishing that so many are driven mad, are ruined in health, and are bankrupt in spirits, hope and money ? Have I not for years pointed out to-them that I, Dr L. L. Smith; am the o% legally qualified medical man advertising in fhe Colonies I Havel not also prosecuted, at my own expense, #ese, very quacks, and exposed the various nos- ; trams they are selling,—such as Phosphbdyne Essence of Life, &c—and had them analysed and found them to consist of "Burnt Sugar and flavoring natter," and the certificates I have pbovbd to be all forgeries. It is for this reason that I step out of the ethics of the profession and advertise, to gife those who require the services of my branch an opportunity of knowing they can consult a legally qualified man, and one, moreover, who -has made this his especial study. Dr L. L. Smith is the only legally qualified medical man advertising, and he has been in Melbourne 24 years, in full practice on 4 NERVOUS DISEASES LOSS OF POWER AND DEBILITY SYPHILITIC AFFECTIONS WANT OF CONDITION GOUT AND RHEUMATISM.
