THE ORPHANAGE PICNIC.

To the Editor of tbe.EvENiHG Stab.

Sib,—Might I ask through your columns how the treat for the orphans last Thursday, was provided—by public subscription, or by the Committee P The reason I aik is that in the Advertiser's report of the meeting I see the names of some of our citizens having given a great many of the " good things of this life." So evidently the committee have done nothing except giving their time in waiting on the children. I for one, and I know many others would have given most liberally, but we understood the committee were going to provide the material for the picnic themselves.—l am, &c, A Fbiend op the Obphanaoe.
