Thames Goldfields Hospital.
The usual montly meeting of the Committee of this institution was held iv the Salutation Hotel yesterday afternoon. The following gentlemen were present: — Messrs Murray (in the chair), Price, Marshall, Osborne, Hutne, Mulligan, Mennie, Hudson, McCullough, Kenshaw, Frater, McGowan, Mollhojie, and the Ee?s. Neill, Laishley, And O'Eeilly. APOLOGIE3. Apologies were received from the Her. V. Lush, and Messrs Comer, Badford and Ahier. THE HOUSE COMMITTEE Reported that one of the inmates of the Old Men's Home had been dismissed for getting intoxicated, and that the monthly accounts were—Salaries,£s7l2s; trades* men's accounts, £46 17s 6d. TBfIASUBEB's BEPOBT. Tbe Hon. Treasurer, Mr A. Hume, read his report as follows:—"Subscriptions, &c, £15 18s; patients' charges, £3 5b 6d; garden produce, £2 11s 6d; surgical instrumeuts, £1 10s; Bank of New Zealand overdraft, £235 os. Expenditure: Bank of New Zealand overdraft, £95 lls 2d; salaries, £66; maintenance; £39 7s 8d; medical com* forts, £22 Is; drugs, Ac, £13 14s 6d; garden £1 Is 6d; miscellaneous £10 10s 7d; printing, &c, £1 14n lOd; commission, £1 13s; furniture, £1 9s 9d; surgical instruments, £5; balance (cash in hand), £1 6s. As:eta: Subsidy due from Government, £46135; cash balance, £1 6s. Liabilities: Bank of New Zealand oTerdrait, £235 ss; salaries, £57 12s ; general accounts, £46 17s 6d." It was resolved that the Vice-President and Treasurer take what steps they consider necessary to expsdit.e the payment of the money due by Government, and the report was adopted.. , SUSaEON's EEPOBT.
The report of the acting House Surgeon (Dr Huxtable) showed that one death had occurred daring the month. A LIFE MEMBERSHIP. Mrs A. Hume wrote to the Committee, enclosing a cheque for £25, the proceeds of her gift tree. She wished the mooej to be devoted to the purchase of an invalid's chair for the Hospital. Mr MoCullough moved and it was carried that a hearty vote of thauks be accorded to Mrs Hume, and that in accordance with the rules, she be made a life member for her exertions on behalf of■ the institution during the past year. A GEIEVANCE. A letter was read from the secretary of the H.A.C.8.5., complaining that a member of that bcdy, who had been in the Hospital, had been intimidated into paying £4 or £6 for maintenance from i the money he received from the sick fund of the Society. He asked that an enquiry be made. On the motion of Mr McCullough, seconded by Mr Mcllhone, the matter was referred to the House Committee. HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT. A letter was received from the Col. Secretary's office, convening an extract from the letter sent by Dr Eowbottom, Messrs P. C. Dean, Plant, and others, asking that another enquiry be held, into the management of the institution. It waa resolved to recommend Government to make the enquiry--witnesses to be examined in oath—and that they be also informed that the committee had recently advertised for complaints, and had enquired into all made. DEMONBTBATION., A letter was read from the P.AJT.S., stating that delegates had been appointed to form a commniittee to see. what steps could be taken towards getting up a demonstration.—Mr Mollhone stated that the; Hibernian Society had taken a similar step. OLD MEN S HOME. It was resolved that all applications for admission to the "Old Men's Home be brought before the House Committtee. HOUSE COMMITTEE. The following were appointed House Committee for the ensuing month:—The Keys. V. Lusk Father O'Eielly, 8. J. Neill and Mr Mulligan. The concluded the business. .-,...
