The Orphanage.

Today the annual picnic to the children pf the Orphanage took place in the large grass paddock belonging to Mr B. 1?. Smith. This gentleman also supplied the children with an unlimited supply of fresh milk. The ladies, members of the Committee, each contributed to the good thirtgs always on the ground on such occasions, and several business men also sent contributions of biscuits, cakes, hams, &c, so that there - was everything in, abundance. The ladies of the Committee were on the ground at an early hour, and in every way attention was S'ven to the wants of the children of the ome to make the day one of enjoyment. Mr McGowan, as Chairman Of the committee, who was requested at last meeting to give an address, did so; other members of the Committee also speaking. The large puriti trees in Mr Smith's farm afforded a very grateful shade during the warmer portions of the day, and underneath them the children had the games. In the afternoon a number of ladies and gentlemen found their way out. -In the speeches reference was * made to the liberality of the public, and especially to the aid received from the Pinafore troupe, which had enabled the Committee to pay the balance dve 1 upon the bridge leading to the Orphanage.
