Financial State of the Board of Education.

, At the meeting of the Board of Education, held yesterday, the Secretary submitted the following financial statement: —Assets: Balance in bank (next 30th September), £1,247 lls sd; grant from Government £14,OC0; [ special jpant towards Hikutaia buildings, £250; sale oi cottages at Raglan, £163 >,;, total, £15,560 lls sd. Liabilities: liabilities under contracts,' £2,395 7s; grants, &c, authorised, £528 16s; unpaid accounts (furniture, &0.,) £226 (say); buildings authorised by Board, but not yet begun, £6,474105: total, £9,624 13s; balance available, £5,935 18s sd. The Chairman, in commenting upon the statement, said that instead of the amount granted the Board should have received between £35,000 and £38,000, and therefore £20,000 more would be required to place it in a fair position as compared with the other provinces. Teachers' houses and school buildings were required in very many districts. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Dargaville, that in acknowledging the Government's . communication the Minister for Education should be again informed that in addition to the £14,000 already granted not less than £20,DC0 was required, and that he should be asked to keep the matter in view.
