PUNGAREHU.
Monday.
The native fencers approached the road as usual today, carrying fencing material but stopped short and fled suddenly before the A.C. could advance. It was found to-day that the road had been blocked with rubbish in the night, and the A.C. were ordered to remove it this morning.
Copies of Mr Bryce's letter to Wiremu Kingi in the Maori language were distributed at Paribaka and the neighbouring places to-day. The returned prisoner!
are reported to be still in in the neighbourhood of New Plymouth. None have reached Parihaka, and are not expected there.
