EtEVJBN V. TWEKTY-TWO.
The first match of cricket season be tween the Eleven and Twenty-two of the Thames Cricket Club took place at Parawai on Saturday. The weather was that could be desired, and there were quite a number of spectators. The fielding was exceedingly loose throughout the game, and both teams showed lamentably the want of practice—the 22 especially. Mr Lawless captained the Eleven and Mr Gellion the Twenty-two, the latter going to the wickets first. The bowling of Lawles and Steedman winterj destructive, and a formidable array of duck's eggs soon begun to appear on the score book, the innings closing for 38. The Eleven then went in, and put together 68 before disposed of. The following are the scores:—
