The gold from Saturday's retorting was to-day melted into an iqgot weighing 285£ozs. There is nothing new since last week in the Morning Star section, or Golden Age rise. A small clayey reef has been intersected in the Nonpareil crosscut, but nothing of importance has been found in connection with it. The crosscut will be underneath the shaft this week and next week the manager will probably stark rising to connect. The weekly report of the mine manager is as follows :—" Nonpareil cross-cut will be underneath the shaft in another 12 feet. It is probable, however, that driving will be pushed forward all next week, in order to give room before starting to rise. A small mullocky reef one foot thick has just been intersected in the drive. After starting the rise four spare men will be put to drive on a leader intersected some weeks pince which showed colors of gold. Morning Star section': There is no change to report here, and the same remark will apply to the Golden Age rise. 150 feet level: The cross-cut south has now been extended 71 feet, intersecting a second leader one foot thick. This bears a promising character, being well defined and containing gold-bearing mundic. On i Monday next driving will be started on the No. 1 leader struck in this cross-cut; 80 feet level: The winze being sunk upon foot wall branch of No. 3 reef east of No. 2 slide is down about 20 feet. -We are carrying leaders and stringers three feet thick containing good gold to the present depth. This work will open up some good blocks of ground for stoping. The stopes and drives in western part of mine are looking very well, and the workings here are like a net-work; Point Eussell: Hise and winze are now connected and timbering up will be proceeded with. During past fortnight we have treated 290 tons of quartz, including 2 cwt of picked stone, the yield of retorted gold being 2890z5. At present we have a considerable amount of pros* peoting work going on, which I am con* rinctd will ultimately prove remouerttivt.
In about another month, half this work will be completed."—l am, Ac., Bobt. Comeb.
