THE Evening Star. PUBLISHED DAILY AT FOUR O'CLOCK P.M. Resurrexi. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1880.
In the report of the proceedings of the County Council it will be seen that Cr Thorburn's motion relative to the increase of salary to the County Chairman was carried. That the salary is not too much for a good man everyone will admit, and equally so that the gentleman who has so long occupied the chair of the Council is such an individual; while the statement that the'funds of the County can afford the expenditure clears away any arguments against the adoption of the course. We are not of those who believe in under paying good men, and especially those acting for the public, who are exceptionably liable to be called upon to spend money when discharging public business, and without any prospect of such being repaid. We should like to see the Borough follow the example of the County, and yote a salary for the Mayor.
