We conclude our report of the proceed* ings at the County Counoil meeting yesterday afternoon. . ,
STAMP DUTY.
The Provincial District Luditor, Mr Dnrrieu, wrote drawing attention to the amendment of the Stamp Act, which now exempted from Stamp Duty, receipts given or taken by County Council, etc, Received.
BOAD AT BUSHY PABK^PUBIBI.
A letter was read from Mr Elliott, of Puriri, applying that the Council lay off a road along the bank of the river. Cr Bagnall, in moving that the request be conceded, said that if the road were made it would meet the requirements of Mr Kelly and also of several settlers who had recently purchased land from Mr Elliott.
Cr Carpenter seconded, but thought they should see where the mdney was to, come from-first.
After some further discussion it transpired that the surveyor had a year ago cut the line of the road referred to by Mr Elliott, and sent in an estimate showing that the cost of making the road would be £300. It was decided to refer the matter to Mr Aitken. FOREMAN OF WOBKS. Applications for the office of Foreman of Works for Krfuaeranga Hiding were received from James Barron (the late Foreman), A. Hart, Samuel Gribble, John Jones and Peter Landy. The selection was relegated to the Engineer. ! CAKADIAN GUILT. A letter was read from a number of Canadian Gully miners applying for a road to connect their mines with the Moanatairi Creek. Messrs Skidmore, Hunter and Brown were present, and urged the ckims of their locality for assistance. ; After some discussion it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the members for Waiotabi riding and the Engineer. ' OLD GOLDEN CABLE. A letter was read from a party of miners working this piece of ground, Hape Creek, asking permission to lay rails across the Hape Creek road;— Granted. Wiseman's gullt. A letter was read from Messrs Meddins, Boss, and others working in this locality asking the Council to extend the road to the Old Siam claim. Beferred to'Jthe Engineer to report. OBSTBUCTION.
Cr Brown laid that he had bean requested to state that Mr Fisher, owner of a house abutting on Normanby Road, Paeroa, would take £10 to remote the obstruction.—Referred to Engineer.

A letter was read from.the Secretary to the TJ.P.A, stating that as the com. pany bad no assets they could not discharge the debt of £2C9 owing for the water supply to Prince Alfred bat* tery. After some discussion it was decided to let the nutter remain in abeyance.
PILK DBIVBB. The offer of Mr J. Punch te sell the Council a pile driver was declined. WAIOTAHI A. BLOCK. A letter was read from Land Purchase Department, stating that Government did not consider it advisable to attempt to complete the purchase of the above block till the next sitting of the Lands Court. KBS POWBB. A letter was read from Mrs F. Power (of Hospital celebrity) stating that as her hus band bad refused to support her tad ; her family, she hoped the Counoil would allow her a bag of seed potatoes andsotM -' bone dust. Beferred to Charitable Aid Committee. , I' - ....•■ SPAITLS. . ~ A letter was reed from Mr Donnelly offering to sell the Council a quantity of spauls. It was decided to-inform the writer that when the Council required road metal they would advertise, Jo* tenders for its supply. TOTABA BIDIKG. Messrs Charlton Bros, wrote regretting that their request for a road to their farms had not been granted, and offering to construct a road 37 chains long through rthe Eahikatea bush. The letter was referred to the Grow* • Lands Board. BBKISBIOK 07 BATBS. The rates of Mrs Syrrett, a widow™ were remitted. - , > WATSB. ' ' . A number of letters were received regarding the new tariff for water from the County supply. Messrs Perry, Bmll, Fisher, Andrews, and Garland (Albarnia Coy.) wrote agreeing to the terms v contained in the Council's circular. The manager of the Queen of Beauty wrote, stating that the directors were quite , satisfied with the present arrangement!. It was decided to eharge-E. B. Edwards (Hematite works) £3 per sluice head. Mr Perry's application for the laying on of the water free to his battery on the ground that he had been paying for the waste water for years past, was refused. accounts. * ":" Accounts amounting to £869 had been passed during the month by the Ftaaatt Committee. . , - COIfPBNSATIOjr. The report of the committee re th« Fraser compensation claim recommended that the question be dealt with after the contemplated tour of inspection of the, County by the Councillors.—This-was adopted. KATIEATI BoAi>. The following resolution was adopted on the motion of Cr Porter:—< M That immediate steps be taken to hare the boundary line between the Tauravga and Thames Counties at once defined, rar the purpose of taking steps to hare the road completed as agreed on between the local < bodies and Minister for Public Works, and that representation be made to Go*' vernment to that effect.".

THK CHAIUMXX't ULAXY. .. Cr Thorburn mored a notice of motion standing in his name, to the effect that the salary of the Chairman be £900, and that the salary as far back v January last be now paid him. Cr Brown seconded the resolution. j Cr. Carpenter strongly opposed the proposal, as he oonsided that the Council could not afford it. He intended a$ next meeting to propose that the, salary be £100 per annum, as he was of opinion that was a fair remuneration. ■ . ~ " ! Cr Coutts thought £300 a year was little enough. ' - : • Cr Brown strongly supported the resolution.
After considerable discussion the retoltttion was adopted, the dissentjente. being Ors Carpenter, Greenville, and Deeble.
WATER BACK COMKITOX.
Tour Committee hare .the honor to report as follows :-*-" (1.) That the following application!, for water as motive power from the race for twelve months' continuous supply, and payment, be ib> oepted, namely: For the Queen of Beauty Pump, the Golden Crown, Albania, ana Bull and Fisher's batteries,, Perry and ' Andrews' tailing plants, and the Kurantu HillCompany|for ventilation of the mine; that the supplementary ittpply be first taken for the Borough Waterworks as par agreement,', the applications first quoted then; taking precedence.'' (0.) That the applications on behalf of the Herald, Queen of Beauty, Xuraaui and Hape Creek: batteries, the Big ;Pump, and Nichols and Edwards'plant be considered as special, for which water will be granted upon terms to be arranged. (3.) That it be a recommendation to the Council that by-laws for the managelMsit and protection of the race be named and adopted.without delay. (4.)
