COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Council was held this afternoon at the Council^ Chambers, Pollen street. Present—'A. Brodie (in the Chair), with Crs Brown, Coutts, Thorburn, Porter, Bagnall, Greenville, Deeble, and Carpenter. ' ; The clerk, Mr E. W. The report of the surveyor stated that the contractor for Hastings and Mercury Bay road had; finished' his contract. The contractor for catting the road past Eocky Point was meeting with , harder ground than was anticipated; «nd would not be finished in contract time. It was recommended, that something be done to improve the Tapu-Waikauau road. A number of slips on the Tararu-Tapu road had been partiallt cleared lajray. Slips bad been.removed from the Mbanatairi and Waiotahi roads. The Karaka road and.the road at the end of Hill street would require about 100 yardi. of metal. The Te Papa and Hape roads would requireslight repairs. TtafOfcinemuri main road from the Hikutaia bndge towards Ohinemuri had been, isiiejl]], and some fourteen chains of fascining should be done during summer at this point. The filling "and forming eonttlfet between Paeroaand Logans'* had Keen completed, and if a few awamp erwsingf were executed passengers between r the Thames and Ohinemuri would take'this route instead of going round by the Puke. The Puke-Paeroa road 'drainage contract was finished, and a portion of the road fascined. The contracts on the Katikati road .was. in a forward state, JNTos. 1 and 3 sections on the Te Aroha rojid had been started.
