Oub cablegrams to-day speak of present tations to the Australian cricketers. This is certainly the least honor that could be done them for the wonderful feats performed by them in the cricket field. The only matter to be regretted in connection with their tour is the feeling stirred up in England by certain classes against them, in retaliation as it were for the treatment Lord Harris and his team received in Sydney. The position taken up by the sympathisers of the English team militated very much, against a fair reception being given to the Colonials, and while there was but one opinion about their play, yet the display of feeling on the part of the gentlemen of England had very much to do with the want of courtesy shown them in some quarters. It was admitted by all that the members of the present team were not to blame for anything that might have occurred on the Sydney cricket ground; yet in a most unaccountable manner for Englishmen, and especially for English gentlemen, the faults of others were laid upon the shoulders of unoffending men. We say the matter is one for regret, and will take years to wipe out of remembrance, for our men returning will not easily forget the treatment received at the hands of their English cousins. The fact that a match was played, though late in the season, with the gentlemen may, in some measure allay the feelings stirred up on both sides, but altogether the reception given our Colonials was neither creditable to the lovers of field sports, nor the gentlemen of the England, while it was calculated to do anything but foster and keep alive that feeling of kinship so much desired both by Colonials and the people of the Mother Country.
