A cobbbspondent writing to a Dunedin paper says: "The Acclimatisation Society hare made one or two rather serious mistakes, notably the introduction of the rabbit and sparrow. I fear, they are about ta eomfliit . another euro by the importation of the Ligurian bee. About twenty yean ago these bees were introduced into victoria by Mr Edward Wilson, of the Argus. Soon after a deluge of correspondence flooded that'paper . on the ravages of the Italian invader. It was > asserted that it was not only profitless, bat that it destroyed the common bees as com* pletely o the Norway rat did the English rodent. Not knowing anything about bees myself, I do not know the result of the intw duction of this inseot. Perhaps it would be well that the matter were discussed before, the threatened consignment are liberated."
