As is shown from the following interesting TALE OF THE PACIFIC! A TALE OF THE PACIFIC. j Wm. Opperman, Esq., a wealthy island trader, was for some months lying ill at Happemamma, an island of the Kingsm j Group, in the Pacific. He had been seized with rheumatic fever, which was followed by complicated disorders of a terribly severe nature, assuming the form of a species of palsy never before known. The sufferer's limbs swelled, the legs lost all sensibility to pain; the foot could be wrenched round or the skin pierced with a lance without in flicting the slightest suffering. The Bick man was evidently unconscious of his having legs, and his brain was seriously affected as if with lunacy. In this deplorable state he was kindly brought from the islands to Auok land by Mr H. Henderson in the schooner | Coronet, Captain Moeller, and, being a German, he was received by the German ! Consul, G. Ton der.Heyde, Esq., and placed in the District Hospital, where he received treatment for three weeks with no indication of improvement, his case being pronounced by one and »U a hopeless one. : The captain of the Coronet, knowing that extraordinary cures had been effected by the use of Hitchens' Celebrated Blood Restorer requested the proprietor of the Blood Restorer to take the case in hand, and a contract was entered into of "No cure, no pay." Mr Hitchens proceeded to the Hospital, examined the invalid and found him in an apparently dying state, with scarcely a epark of -life left. Mr Hitchen* ordered the suffering man to be removed to his (Mr H's) private residence, where his wanls could be personally attended to by Mr Hitchena. The latter administered the medicine (the Blood Restorer) and used the ointment freely. Meanwhile clergymen oftlled, pronouncing the caße beyond the power of man to effect a cure. However after six weeks the effect of the medicine became wonderfully apparent.
