The Viceregal party, upon reaching the New Zealand Court were received by Commissioners Hector and Bleechwood, and Mr Callis, Secretary. Dv Hector presented the Marquis of JSTormanby with a handsome catalogue of the New Zealand exhibits, and a handbook of New Zealand. Although this is the Marquis of Normanby's first official visit he has frequently visited the Court prior to the opening and shown that he still retains a lively interest in New Zealand affairs. The Court presents a pleasing and attractive appearance, although several details are still imperfect.

The entries are much greater than at Sydney, but the space allotted is less. The Court though crowded, yet every exhibit is displayed to the best advantage.

After visiting all the courts, which were examined by the Vice-regal party, the Marquis of Normanby despatched a telegram to Her Majesty the Queen, announcing the opening. The grounds were next inspected, and the trades procession bands the while playing the national anthem. A salute was fired and the Vice-regal party departed.

The whole proceedings passed off with grert eclat, and there was a large attendance.

The scene at the opening ceremony wag brilliant and impressive, and most of the courts were in a, forward state, although some are still unfinished. The whole display promises to be excellent. The streets during the day were thronged with crowds who were very orderly.
