Yesterday, 4.25 p.m.

The charges of ill-treatment, to a prisoner by two constables was proceeded with this morning. The medical evidence showed that when the prisoner was taken to the hospital the large bone of his leg was broken, which could have been easily detected if examined immediately after being locked up. Tbe prisoner appeared to have been on. the spree. Jane Campbell stated that the constables dragged the prisoner along the street, when she heard him crying that his leg was broken, but the police did not heed him. The station-house keeper said the prisoner did not make any complaint when he was locked up, and the sergeant visited him two or three times during tbe night but he did not make any complaint. Later The accused deny, the alleged illtreatment of the prisoner, and state they were unable to trace any injury to the limb when they examined it. The Magistrates reserved judgment until Monday. This day. A young man named Andrews was locked up last night, charged with drunkenness, and was heard walking in the cell later on, but this morning he was found with a fractured skull, and removed ' to the hospital. Andrews died this afternoon from the injuries sustained, but it is not yet known how he was injured.
