Departure of Mr W. Garriok.

' Upon it becoming known that Mr W. Among those present were his Worship the Mayor, L. Eurenfried, |A. Brodie, County Chairman, T. L. Murray, Bank of New Zealand, G. N. Brassey, Coroner, A. Hogg, Dr Callan, Messrs Gellion, McCullough, Hennelly, Symington, Cloonan, Wilson, Brown, Frater, Scott, Crawford, Coiner, Jtennan, Smith,

Os borne, Turtle, McGregor, Melhose, Praser, McDonnell, Murdoch, Greenville, Crump, Watson, Price, and a number of others.

Mr Ehrenfried was voted to the Chair, and addressed Mr Carrick as follows :— Mr Carrick, —It becomes my pleasing duty to occupy the Chair on the present occasion, deputed as I have been to present you with some token of their esteem by your many friends in this place before bidding you farewell. It is, I may say, a matter of regret to us all that we should lose you ; at the same time, I may say, that we one and all congratulate you on what we believe will ultimately tend to your prosperity in life. We are at all times loath to part with an old face, more especially one whose many social qualities win for him the many friends that yon have during your long residence among us; and we trust that wherever you may be and wherever yon may go prosperity will attend you in all your undertakings. I have much pleasure in presenting you with this ring as a token of respect from your many friends here.

The Chairman then called upon those present to drink the health of the gnest, which was done with three times three. Mr Carrick suitably responded. * After some remarks from other gentlemen, Mr Carrick was accompanied to the steamer by those present.
