At a meeting of the Chamber of Com* merce held to consider what action was possible for promoting the West Coast railway, a committee was formed to take the proper steps to form a company to be called the North Island and West Coast Railway Company, and to report to another meeting as early as practicable, preparatory to bringing the whole subject before the public. ?
A woman in Walker's shooting gallery was ihot through the arm by th* aoeidental
discharge of a gun. The wound is not serious.
It is rumored here that a disturbance has occurred with tbe Maories at Lyttelton gaol, Bipa Island. A telegram has just been received from tbe police depot asking for additional men.
