OLD GOLDEN CALF.
It will be remembered that at about the time public attention was first drawn to the operations of this company at the No. 3 level it was supposed tnat a dis tance of only 80 feet separated the then face of the drive and tho Moanatairi slide, on which it was hoped the lode would make a deposit of gold. Lately Mr Bayldon has mode a survey of the ground, and stales that tho distance between the two slides is about 120 feet, the distance being previously underestimated by 40 feet The manager will consequently have to drive another 70 feet before the slide is reached. Up to the last 10 feet gold was frequently seen in the lode, although there is no impor tant change in its appearance. It is as fine a looking body of stone as one could see anywhere. The manager is .saving the best portions of the stone, but will not send it to the mill for some time, yet.
