Feom the report ot the proceedings of the deputation to the Hon. Attorney-General re the railway it would appear Mr Whitaker was favorably inclined to further the wishes of the deputation. He admitted that the Government had no intention or desire to misappropriate the vote, and promised to represent to his colleague, the Hon. Minister for Works, tbe desirability of .pushing on the Thames,Waikato railway from the Waikato end. Half a loaf is bettor than uo bread, and the residents of the " worked-out diggings," as ;a Government supporter styled our district, are truly thankful for even small favors from the handa of the Hall Government. On the we are satisfied with tbe result of-the deputation, and think they deserve credit for the clear and forcible manner they urged the rights and necoositjes of the Thames on the Government.
