TARARU CREEK.
I am glad to hear that there is a prospect of active operations being resumed at the head of the Tararu Creek, Mr E. Thomas having taken the Comstock claim, formerly the celebrated Little Agnes, on tribute for a term of five years, paying 10 per cent, on gold raised, and 5 per cent, on the other minerals known to exist in the claim, should he succeed in working them profitably. Work will be started on Monday morning, two men being employed to clear out the old drives. Mr Thomas is sanguine of meeting with success, and intends sending five tons of the supposed lead ore or galena to Swansea where a practical test can be made. Should the test prove satisfactory no doubt Mr Thomas would at once receive an offer, for supplies of the ore from that town.
Some weeks ago I referred sanguinely to the prospects of a party working at the Ohio Creek on a claim named the Thistle. The prospects obtained were excellent, but after several trials had been made the promoters were convinced that gold did not exist in sufficient quantities to pay.
