CALEDONIAN.
The manager's report is as follows :— "The south face, No. 3 level, has struck through to the hanging-wall of the lode. The stone has shown no change to note. 1 am preparing to drive south on the hanging wall side. Winze, No. 1 section : The lode has been cut through at a depth of about 30 feet below No. 2 level, showing a thickness of about 20 feet of almost solid quartz, all carrying a little gold, but not yet payable. I am continuing the drive on the hanging wall, as the No. 1 and 2 lodes after the junction, and a junction of these with tue leader worked by Howe and party, in the Young American, must be within a few feet of present face. No. 2 section, No. 2 level; The drive reported in my last as started on the lode hating a western bend, is in 25 feet, in good ground. The lode has opened to a thickness of nearly two feet, and shows gold every breaking.down. In aH probability it will be found that this is a junction of the young American lode. I shall be prepared to start stoping here this week. There are about 18 tons of quartz in the hopper. It will be sent to the battery some day this week.— I am, &c, Thomas James.' ,
