As will be seen from our report of the proceedings of the meeting of delegates re the railway, arrangements were made for deputationising the Hon. Mr Whitaker and learning the intentions of the Government respecting our " pet scheme." We thoroughly approve of the course decided on, and hope the result of the deputation will bo the hatching of some idea that will bring about another start upon our line. Mr Speight drew attention to the £75,000 unemployed vote, a portion of which he thought might be obtained for railway works at this end of the line. We are glad that this matter was brought up, as the Thames is just as much in want of such assistance, and is as much entitled to it as other centres of population. We have large numbers of men here.ou.t of employment, while many others are tributing without obtaining any return for their labour. It would therefore be advisable for the deputation in interviewing Mr Whitaker to strongly urge the necessities.of the district and its right to a share of the unemployed vote.
