NEW GOLDEN CROWN.

The crushing is now beginning to shape and the amount of amalgam taken from the berdans and plates is very satisfactory. The crushing has been interrupted a little by the breaking of belts and other little troubles incidental to a new battery, and it will take a few days before the plates, etc., are in proper order. There is plenty of quartz to grass and the works now in progress in the mine will hare the effect of increasing the quartz supply. The different workings were visited today. In the new cross cut I found driving operations ip progress on the lode, which, looks well and shows a little gold. Qne section, of the reef is composed of a mass of stringers

and bande of mullock which, however is all sent to the mill with the rest. At the intermediate level the operations on Herival's leader will shortly admit of stopiDg being vigorously started. Good gold has been seeu in several places. In tho seaward face the lode is at present somewhat pinched with a "head," but shows signs of resuming its original size. At the point where the lode was first intersected the manager is also making preparations for stoping, though the quartz in view does not look very promising. Operations will also be started on the big lode at this level where it was worked with favorable results by the old tributers. There is five or six feet of quartz in the face, which though it shows no gold it has a very promising appearance.
