[advebtibement.]

(To the Editor of the Evening Stab.) SIB, —I regret exceedingly tint Mr Perm finds it nrcessnrj, t,i> fWond one fnlae hood by a tis'tie of new ones. As, however, it would ovidcntlv bo a useless job lo argue w.ith such a man I cave in—reforing only (o two or three suliciit isninin. let. With regard to want of proper alien tion to patients. We lm.vn Laurie's nuthoril.y for saying th»t cvpry attention and rare was paid to him whilst in the Hospital, the result, Doing most successful, and the leg both stronger and straight er than before lie broke i(. 2nd. With regard to the ledMvg— Mr Laurie states, "The beddin^was clean though old, but it was replace^ by new at my request." I may mention that, even 7 fresh patient has invariably clean sheets on his being admitted into tbe hospital. Mr Lnurio also stntes thnt j "He saw no vermin whilst in tbe hospital." Query : Did Mr Dean perchance accidentally introduce the ones that were found ? 3rd. Mr Honiss gave a flat confradict:on, not to use stronger language, to Mr Dean's statements, and that by producing his own hand-writing. f^Jiih. With regard to F. C. Dean's slate"^nents that I was shewn the contents of his letter, and that I endeavored" to intimidate him in the Council Chambers, allow me again to regret that Mr Dean should be compelled to bare recourse to falsehood. The real facts are as follows: On the Committee advertising for complaints, it was mentioned to me that Mr Dean was a complainant. This surprised me very much, as irrespective of my being unaware of the existence of any cause of complaint, I was under the impression that Mr Dean and I were on terms of good friendship, and that therefore, if be caw any room for improvement in the Hospital management he would suggest it to me in a friendly manner. In conversation with him in Ihe Cojincil Chambers on the subject of the alleged complaints, I learnt.however, that he disclaimed any idea of complaint, but said he had a prejudice in favor of femnle nurses of th* Miss Nightingale tjpe, and meant to take the opportunity of trotting out hi? bobby.—When Mr Dean says " My letter to the Committee or the cent ants of it were shewn to Dr Pnvne " be tells an untruth. Before Dr Skne he gives another reason—the close approach of his dinner hour and insufficient notice. Mr Honies has already silenced him on that point. I must repent again that I regret the evidence was not taken on oath, in which case the luxury would be afforded me of proceeding against one or more of Ihe witnesses in the late Hospital enquiry for perjury.—l am, Sir, yours, Ac, MiETIN H. PATNE. September 21,1880.
