John Power, who was arrested upon warrant, was charged with failing to support his wife, Fanny Power. Fanny Power deposed that she was the wife of defendant and had three children. Her husband had been offered work but had not done anything tjt weeks. The defendant refused to ask questions, saying his wife was too headstrong. John B. Mason deposed that he had good authority for saying that the defendant had refused work. His family was was quite destitute. The defendant, in reply to the Court, said he did not intend to work ; he had done enough on this earth. He asked His Worship to send him to Mount Eden, and bare him strung up. An order for £1 per week was made against the defendant.
