REV. W. MORLEY'S LECTURE.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)

Sib,—When prominent leaders in any Christian denomination -■ lecture on the Bible, one expects to hear something 1 profitable and instructive, bat I think the most extremely orthodox will concede that | the Bey. Mr Morley's lecture on Monday evening was neither the one nor the other —barely a second rate oration, and more like the hash of a Thames Sunday school boy than the production of a divine with the reputation of Morley. How amusing, yet saddening, to see him put. aside the questions of authenticity and verbal inspiration to be dealt with by experts and theologians. Heathen Chinee-like, passing over the Bible cards to T>e dealt with by those who understand the game. On the Mary street Church platform, with " ranters " to right of him, and " dippers " to left of him, and " peoksniffians " in front pf him, it may have.required the courage and backbone of a Macrae, Fergus Ferguson, or a Farrar, to deprive some of the audience, with one fell swoop, of the ooan*\ forts and consolations of the eternity, of Gehenna. But even a consistent support of the clearly defined Wesleyan hell, and :- explanations on how it can be maintained from Scripture/ would have been nraeh more instructive than some of the traditional and mythical nonsence we were treated with on Monday evening.—I am . &c., Ajax.
