OAMARU.
This day.
A house belonging to Thomas Dunn, at Whitson'u,. was- burnt down on Saturday. It was insured in the Now Zealand office for £275.
Fifteen publicans were today charged at the Resident Magistrate's Court with selling adulterated brandy. The brandy was proved to have been diluted with water, the dilution ranging from 6 to 20 per cent. The Magistrate accepted 15 per cent, as the standard of dilution, so a number of tlio defendants were fined, and in some cases the charge was dismissed on account of the publican admitting to the constable who purchased the liquor that it was diluted.
