An advertisement in another column informs the public that Messrs Frater Bros, will receive applications from intending investors for the new issue of shares in the 4 Kaiapoi Woollen Factory. This company commenced about two years ago with a capital of only £15,000, aa amount whicb they now find is far (oo small to carry on operations with advantage, so intend increasing it to £100,000 in 40CO shares of £25 each, the whole of which there is reason to believe can be profitably employed in the course of a few years. Of this, number, however, only 1600 are now being plaee3 on the market, and M^Woodj the manager o( the Company, who wbb here a few days ago, succeeded in placing a number of them witlrsome of our principal drapers, tailors, &c, a class which it is patent to all is very desirable should be interested in such an undertaking. The Company began in difficult times, and had to jfight against a strong importing interest, but .considering the fact that their plant, which cbs> the original owners some.£2O,Coo, was bought by them for £7003, and the amount of wool of every description,; from the finest merino to the best deep grown, which cm he, bad at their very door at first cost, advantages whioh no other company possesses ia the same degree, "ifc-roust be conceded that a prosperous future awaits'it.~.

We (Waikato Times) have the authority of the member for Waikato (Mr Whyte) for stating that the bridge to cross the river at Hamilton on the line of Thames-Waikato railway has been ordered; that in fact the tender for its construction has been let. The erection of this bridge, together with the first
four or five miles boyond, will probably absorb the whole of the unexpended portion of tlifi
vole for Ihb I'hdineß'VVaikulo line, namely, £15,000, bufc.it will set at rest the question — is Wnikato to be connected with the Thames ? It-will do more'ha 1! this. It. will nwk the comtnenceme.nt of* the Cambridge branch, because it vs perfectly ,well understood,'or if it is not, it is through do fau't of the Waiksto, that nn scheme could be considered as linking the districts of the Thames and Waikato which left Cambridge unregarded.
The steamer Vivid baa gone to Whakatiwai
jto bring off the stranded whale. The gigantic j fish—it is 70 feet long-r-will be towed to | Tararu point and then tried out, when if ,as is supposed, it is a sperm whale, it will prove j very valuable to the captors. We bear that ■ the finders had a "native difficulty" with some -of the Miranda natives regarding the whale, the Maoris claiming it as thoir legitemafco property under one of the provisions of the Treaty of Waitjngi, and on thatr plea managed to levy a modicum of Hack mail. The immense mammal is expected to arrive here this afternon, and no doubt his wbaleahip will be deputatioriised by a large number of curious citizens, [cince the above was written we hear th« Btea >er commenced towing the whale this morning, and when about four miles from the Miranda the animal began to fhow signs of .returning vitality, find the people on the steamer soon discovered that they had caught a Tartar, as hia whaleship turned tail a; d commenced swimming vigorously back to the shore, pal-. - ling the vessel after it. According to latest accounts the whale has again become a little passive, and the steamer was making headway Ihamesward.]
