NORMANBY.
Thursday THE HON. MR BRTCE AT NORMAKBY. A deputation of Normanby settlers waited on the Hon. Mr Bryce yesterday afternoon, in Hawera, to impress on him the necessity of at once bridging the Waingongoro river and opening the road leading from Normanby to Manaia. They pointed out that in view-of the approaching settlement of the Plains, the extension of the railway to Normanby, this road would be one of the main feeders of the line. The deputation also urged that the District Land Office of the newly con* structed district under the West Coast Settlement Bill should be established here.
The hon. gentlemen promised consideration of both matters, but in the present state of finance could give no immediate prospect of the erection of the Waingongoro bridge, and regarding the Land Office would lay their views before the Minister of Lands."—Star.
