A MEETING of brewers and hotel keepers was held last night at the Wharf Hotel to consider matters affecting their business. The question of forming an association for the protection of the trade was discussed, but only in a very cursory manner, aa some interested—Mr Hogg and others —were absent. We would direct the attention of miners to the advertisements of the managers of the Alburnia and Moanatairi Companies for works required to be done in the mines. A MEETING was held last night in the Young' Men's Christian Association roomsfor the purpose of taking the preliminary steps to organise a branch of the New Zealand Alliance on the Thames. It is contemplated to hold a public meeting for the purpose of discussing the platform of the Alliance. Mb Simon's lecture on Spiritualism will take place at the Academy of. Music tomorrow afternoon. We would remind members of the Eiile Eangers of their Church parade to-morrow. On Monday evening next the Eev. Mr Morley will deliver a lecture at the Congregational Church on "The English Bible—its history and translation." We understand that a meeting of volunteer officers will be held this evening for the purpose of eon ideving an invitation from Auckland re the review on the Prince of Wales' birthday, and one from Captain Euncinian, of the Waikato Cavalry. The services in connection with the Wealeyan Home Mission will take pluce tomorrow, the Revs. Morley and Watkin preaching at the two Wealeyan Churches. The new Property Tax schedules will be approved by the Executive Council to-day, and forthwith gazetted and distributed.

In another column we publish a list of subscriptions collected hy Mr H. B. Campbell for the Limn Richards, recently so seriously injured in the Hape Creek mine. Further subscriptions may be handed to Mr Campbell, or left at this office. Mr Campbell deserves every credit for his humane exertious in this matter.

Some outcry is going on in the Wellington papers over the fact that no Burial Service was read at the interment of Matthow Henderson, the suicide. It appears, however according to one of the disputants, that the law of the land does not permit e'ergymen to read the Burial Service over a suicide's grave after a verdiot oifelode se has bfen returned at the usual inquest. Had then any minister of raligion made an attempt to do so in Henderson's case, it would have been a violation of the law, and he would have rendered himself liable to imprisonment, or subject to fine. -Herald.
