London, September 6. Earl G-ranville on Irish affairs.
In the House of Lords to-day Karl Granville, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, took occasion to refer to the debates which have taken place in the House of Commons on the subject of the rejectipn by the Lords of the Irish Regis* tratiorf of Votersßill. His Lordship, in the course of his remarks, said he desired to disavow sympathy with the tenor of speeches made by his colleague, W. E. Forster, Chief Secretary for Ireland, who had blamed the Lords for persisting in the course calculated to lead to the necessity for a change in the English constitution. Calcutta, September 6. Further intelligence has been received of the engagement between the British troops and Ayoub Khan in Candahar. Thp details show that General Roberts feigned an attack in full force on Ayoub's entrenchment at Babawah and Cabul. He succeeded in turning the enemy's position, and when they found their retreat cut oft" by an overwhelming force in their rear, they were completely routed.
