THE COMPLIMENTARY SOIREE.
(To the Editor of the Evening Stab.) Sib,—Why will people write about what they know little or nothing ? Ycmr * Saturday's journal contains two letteri from such writers, who endearor to make out that the above soirre was to be, or should be, a Templar affair. I enpbati* cally deny this. Oat of the nine com* aitteemen chosen to make all arrange* Giants, six, if not seven, are noa-templart, and as for myself, if the soiree wu to ; ; have been any other than one from the ~Jt' general public, I would have had nothing to do with it. Will the writers take my advice and make a point of doing all they can to make it a success. That would be wise of them, for certainly Mr Speight and Sir George Grey if he comes are deserving of the same for the benefit they have tried hard to do the Thames. Wiiliam Wood. F.S. —A meeting of the general committee w ill take place to>night at 7.30 in the rooms of the Young Men's Christian* Association for the purpose of furthering the object.
