Contracts under the County Council.

The tenders for the several works required by the Thames County Council, were opened to-day. No. 1 contract-was for filling swamp and road formation between Rotokohu and Te Moauanui's settlement, and the following were the tenderers' names and the sums asked:—Goonan, £290; Punch, £347; Marriman. £350; Buttler, £359; Bryson, £369, Murphy, £400.

No. 2 was for completing the road through the Botokohu bush about 110 chains, including several bridges and culvert's;, The following persons tendered : —Punch, £328; Healy, £369; Sheehan, £370; Buttle. £374; Bain, £381: Hamilton, £385; Marriman. £400.

No. 3 was for road formation, including 15 bridges and 16 culverts, on the main Te Aroha road :—Marriman, £350; Butler, £370; Punch, £384; Boyer, £390 ; Healey. £419 ; O'Halloran, £439 ; Kneebone and C'ornes, £449. The lowest was accepted in each case. The whole of the work has been taken considerably below the Engineer's estimate, but probably the tenderers have made the ten per cent, reduction now so much in vogue.
