COUNTY COUNCIL.
We conclude our report of the pro* ceedings at the County Council meeting yesterday.
COMPENSATION.
Crs Brown and Carpenter were appointed a committee to settle Mrs Fraser's claim for compensation in connection with the Puke-Paeroa road. Mr Thomas Dufty wrote asking £40 compensation for damage done to his property in connection with the railway works. Referred to Minister for Public Works. THE BAIL WAY. Crs Deeble and Brown were appointed to act with delegates from the Borough Council and Harbor Board in reference to urging on Government the spending' of the railway vote. TAPU EOAD. A letter from Mr Brassey re Mr Carran's claim for compensation was referred to the County solicitor. WAIKAWATJ BLOCK. An application from homestead selectors on the Waikawau Block for a track was referred to the Board of Works.
BAB BOAD. Mr Waite's letter calling attention to the impassable state of the Eureka Hill road was referred to the Engineer. SLAUGHTEBHC TJBB. A slaughter-house license was granted to Townsend and Co., for premises situated at Parawai Gardens.
TE ABOHA. Ahi Pepene and other Aroba natives wrote asking the Council to fence the road at Omahu. Received. ,
APPBOPBIATIONS COMMITTEE. The following was read and adopted :— " Report of the Bub-Committee appointed at a meeting of the whole Council to select the roads the various ridings upon which expenditure is proposed, with the view of obtaining £ for £ out of the £10,000 voted by the Government in aid of goldfieids' roads:—Your Committee, after mature consideration, have the honor to make the following recommendations— Waiotahi Riding: That the Moanatairi and Waiotahi roads be extended and improved. £700.—Ohinemuri Riding : That the Waitekauri road be extended from the dray road to the Waitekauri mines. £200 — Hastings Riding: That the Tararu road be extended as a sleigh road to the mines in the upper district. £<2CO. — Totara Riding: That the Tairua road be extended and improved. £200.—Kauaeranga Riding: That the Karaka and Hape Creek roads be extended and improved.—£soo."
BECUBITIES.
The reporfc.of the Securities; Committee was read. It showed that the" sale of the securities had resulted as follows:—The Big Pump, £1300; central smithy, £35 ; Imperial Crown licensed holding, £170; Prince Alfred battery, £300; steam engine, £50; Caledonian mine, £2000; Caledonian battery, £800; Tookey miue, £700; Golden Crown mine, £700 ; (less gold per centage, £92 10s lOd, and bank discount on bills, £7 40s); Golden Crown battery, £700 (leas rent due, £150).; centrifugal pump, £45 ; Caledonian tributers, £18 4s 3d; Sim's tailings percentage, £2 Is 4d; Golden Crown tributers, £92 10s 10d; sale of timber, £35 3s 9d; Rowe's forfeit, £76 16s 3d.—Total, £6774 153 7d. In the auctioneer's hands against contingent expenses : Deposit on Golden Crown, £140; cash on sale of engine, £50; cash on sale of timber, £35 3s 9d.—Total, £255 3s 3d.
- The report was adopted and a vote of thanks accorded to the Committee. WATBB BACE COMMITTEE. The following report was adopted :— " Yf ur Committee hare the honor to report that they have fully considered the matter submitted to them, and beg to recommend—lst. That from and after the Ist day of October next ensuing, the charge for water for motive power be at the rate of £3 per sluice head per week to those using it continuously, such rate to be in force for twelve months from that date. 2nd. For any water in excess of the quantity taken permanently as above provided special arrangements be made. 3rd. In the event of the supply of water falling short of the requirements of all thoae taking it permanently, provision be made for cutting off" the supply from each at equal intervals, and in each caao where the water is so cut off, no charge should be made during such time. It is further recommended that pursuant to the powers conferred upon the Council under clause 9 of the Thames Water Supply Transfer Act, 1830, proceedings be taken for the recovery of overdue accounts for water supplied." MINEfiS* EIGHTS; < Cr Carpenter moved a notice of motion standing in the Chairman's name : " That this Council do confer with the Thames Borough Council for ihe purpose of devising the best means of obtaining compensation for the miners 9 rights and other fees paid in excess to the native owners of the goldfield."-~Cr Bagnall seconded the resolution, which was passed after the addition (at the request of Cr Greenville) of the words, " aud that in future the only fees charged be those intended by Mr Mackay in his agreement." BLOCK WAIOTAHI A. The '.Chairman's notice of motion that "The Government be requested to purchase Waiotahi A." was agreed to. OHINEMUBI CEMETEBY. The following motion by Cr Porter was adopted "That immediate steps be taken to secure a suitable piece of ground for a ceni^tery at Ohinemuri." . W THE BIG PUMP.
Or Carpenter moTed, " That the Copcil adhere to its former decision to contribute towards the maintenance of the Big Pump, and that the new proprietors be requested to leave a seat on the directorate vacant|for a representative of the Council." —Carried.—Cr Greenville thought that as the Council had assisted the Big Pump they should make a concession to the proprietors of the Hape mine also, by refunding the gold duty raised within the area drained., The cost of draining the mine was wry heavy.-—The Chairman aud
Cr Brown spoke in favor of the request being granted.—Cr Thorburn moved a resolution, " That the application be granted."—Seconded by Cr Brown and carried. . This concluded the meeting.
