CALEDONIAN.
Whilst breaking down the quartz in the winze to-day, neav the junction of a small leader with the reef, a few lbs of nice looking picked stone was obtained. The quartz is white and chalky, and the gold very fine. The manager's report for the week is as follows: —" The south face No. 1 section, No. 3 level, has bet n continued with sis men during the week. Nearly the whole face is now in the lode which is being crossed diagonally towards the hanging wall. There are regular mineral bands of considerable thickness showing in the face; they carry a little gold, but are not yet payable. I have opened out in the winze, and have commenced to take down the stone from the footwall side of the main body of quartz near the junction with the No. 5 lode. A few colors of gold have been seen. ,No. 2 section eastern lode—Twelve loads of quartz have been sent to the battery from and near the junction. I have started to take out quartz from the bottom of the No. 2 level, No. 3 lode, No. 2 section. The lode is similar to that stoped out above the level, and is showing payable. The work of rising from the No. 3 level is suspended until it shall be further proved by sinking what direction the shot of gold takes."
