HOW DO WE KNOW THAT THE NEW TESTAMENT WRITINGS ARE GENUINE?
A Sbbmon delivered by the Mev. R. Laishley in tJie Congregational Chur6h,lon Sunday, t/te 22nd instant.
The preacher chose for his text the following:—2 Peter, lch., 16th verse— "For we have not followed cunningydevised fables when we made known unto you the power and the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." In introducing his subject Mr Laishley said : " I have selected the language of the text not with the design to preach a sermon from it, but because it expresses a truth which I am called this evening to maintain in my address." After recapitulating the chief points of evidence given in a former address Mr Laishley at great length replied to the qaestioas asked and quoted largely from ancient writers proving the genuineness of the present Scriptures. The sermon was most attentively listened to, and was altogether a most admirable address. We purpose in a future issue to publish the sermon in full.
