THE TEMPERANCE LECTURE.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sib,—l avail myself of yonr kind offer to insert a few words of explanation and , correction in regard to the Temperance sermon. The sermon or address was prepared .without any idea of publication; the M.S. was partly written out, and partly, towards the dose, composed of outlines wbioh in speaking I filled up; the imperfect M.S. was giren to assist the reporter in making a few notes of the disconrse if he thought fit. You-can, therefore, judge of my surprise when, without any opportunity of adding all I had said, or revising what was written,.or even correcting the proof, ' I found it had been printed. r <

There are one or two evident mistakes, such as " overtoiling" instead of over* taxing, " some believe " instead of for we believe, "on the other hand " for on the One hand, "cojeeted" for congested, "flood" for blood, and a few others not so evident. But on the whole it is a mystery .to me hgw.you read the hand* writing so correctly. When I have overcome my astonishment at finding myself regarded as a temperance lecturer, I may, should occasion offer, say a little more on what at present stands uncompleted.— Yours, &c., S. J. Neili. St. James' Manse, ./ Thames, 18th August, 1880.
