Mining Review of the Week.
We are glad to notice that the principal companies interested in pumping operations have recognised the inexpediency of the pump being solely under the control of one company, and probably they hare been induced to this way of thinking from the recent stock scare, caused by the announcement by the Moanatairi Company of their intention to stop the Pump. It has been decided to purchase the Pump and place it under a separate management, and make its position independent of the pleasure of the directors of any one mine or set of mines. During the past few days there have been whispers and rumors of the necessity of uniting both the drainage systems under one management, as it is now held that pumping operations cannot be carried out satisfactorily unless the two pomps are worked in unison, and unless the conflicting interests at present existing are merged. We ha?e all along held this opinion but the difficulties in the way hare been so great that until the present time there has not been a fair opportunity for a solution of the question. However, it is now patent that success can only be achieved by a combined system of management and we trust that the present crisis will result in the accomplishing of this desirable end. The mines hare been very quiet during the week, and there has been no abnormal excitement on 'Change. The Alburnia hare made a discovery of gold bearing stone in a portion of the mine which is looked upon as unpayable, and this has had the effect of slightly improving the feeling towards the stock of the company. The Queen of Beauty Company are calling tenders far working the upper lerels of the mine on tribute, and no doubt several of the blocks will pay rery well.
