Last Night's Sitting.

The debate was continued this evening. Mr Barron condemned the report of the Commissioners on the Otago Central Line.

Mr Macandrevr strongly condemned the report on the Otago Central Line, and Mr Johnson that on the WellingtonFoxton line. He thought the Minister of Public Works was treating this district unfairly, and that sufficient information regarding the present contemplated future expenditure of the loan was not given. Mr Sauuders defended the, Railway Commissioners, and thought their report

better worth attention than the report of j any select committee.

Mr Liindon thought the report an honest and truthful one. It certainly was so far as the North was concerned, ani he.quite agreed with it.

This day. Major Atkinson warmly defended the Commission, and hoped the House would reject Mr Pyke's motion by a large majority.

Mr Montgomery supported the Commission and their report, but thought Government was keeping a million of money under the pretence which they had no intention of fulfilling, that of spending it in native land purchases. This would be a very nice sum to have in hand to allocate next year on the going to the country. On Mr Hall's ..motion the debate was adjourned to Monday on a division of 34 to 21.

Considerable discussion and several divisions took place on the question of the adjournment of the House, ultimately it went into Committee on the Hospitals and Charitable Aid Bill. Progress was reported, and the House adjourned at 12.20.
