Last Night's Sitting.
COMMITTEE OF SUPPLT.
The debate was continued.
Hon. J. Hall said when they considered the extravagant expenditure to which the colony had been accustomed, Government was not surprised that the Fublie Works Statement should be impugned. There were breakers ahead, however, and as prudent men they could not shut their eyes to the danger. The colony would yet come to recognise their prudence and foresight. They could, not again go into the money market till 1882, consequence they had to finance to that date. Referring to the statements made by Mr Saunders re Mr Blair's report upon badly constructed waggons, he could not agree with Mr Sauoders. Mr Blair had shown that waggons were made by contract, for which he was not responsible. He believed Mr Saunders had done Mr Blair, a public servant, great injustice. Mr Saunders said it was the dual system the report attacked, and not an individual officer.
Mr Barron suggested that large blocks' of land should be set apart for making such' lines as the Strath-Taieri.
The'motion for going into committee oi supply was carried on the voices.
