Our cable despatches to-day contain the important intelligence of the probability of the Governor of New Zealand, Sir Hercules Robinson, succeeding Sir Bartle Frere, Chief "Commissioner of the South African Dependencies. We are inclined to give some credence to the report as our Governor is in high favor with the party now in power. Sir Bartle has already been recalled, so that it is probable if there is truth in the statement, the change will take place in the coarse of a few months.
