The House met at 2.30. A number of questions were answered by the GoTernmenf. In the matter of reduction in the police force, the Government thought it might be possible to establish some system of rural police, at a comparatively low rate of pay, in such country districts where it has been found necessary with a riew of retrenchment to remote the police of the regular force formerly stationed there, so that life and property may hare some protecton. APPEALS FBOM LICENSING BENCH. Government did not think it was expedient to add to the Licensing Bill before the House provisions enabling persons aggrieved by, the decision of a Licensing Bench to appeal from such decision, such appeal to be heard by a Board to be elected annually by the ratepayers in each district, and called the Licensing Appeal Bench. BOYAL COMMISSION. Government had the reports of the several Eoyal Commissioners under consideration. With some of these recommendations they agreed, -and to others they dissented. They would give effect to the former and reject the latter. Free Public Library subsidies would not be renewed. ' PUBLIC WORKS STATEMENT. ' Hon. J. Hall announced that the Public Works Statement would not be readjfuntil Friday evening.
