ALBURNIA.

This mine was visited today. Dixon's section: The winze sinking from the Whau level on Dixon's lode is now down about 40' feet, and is a fine substantial job. At present a elide is being passed through, but in a few feet the lode will be again picked np. Before the slide was reached the reef showed good gold and the quartz crashed well. At the 160-feet level the men driving on the crosscut to cut Dixon's lode have touched by a hard bar of rock, and as the lode is some distance off—and when it was cut 100 feet would hare to be driven to get under the winze—it has been decided that the best course will' be to- go back to the main drive and drive straight for the point where the winze will hole through. 160 feet level: In the Devon end the lode which had been pinched out for a day or two has been again picked up and is already making some likely stone. The face of the drive is now only 13 feet from the Devon boundary. Stoping over this drive is being carried on with* out change to mention. The manager intends shortly to sink a winze from the end of. the level to prospect the lode in the block underneath. Inter* mediate level: The workings here have in Iriaoes broken through into the 70 feet evel; but there is still a considerable quantity of dirt to move, and there will yet be a' good month's work here before it can be pronounced exhausted. 70-feet level.—ln the stopes over this level towards the Devon, boundary the reef is eight feet thick, most of which is crashing dirt; I saw several nice looking specimen stones, from the centre of the reef, and was informed that good colors of gold are frequently seen in all parts of this lode. The stopes on hanging wall leader, are still producing a fair grade of stone, and the lode looks well in the face.
