The Patetere Block.
In the House of JRepreßentatites, on Friday night, on the motion for going into committee of Supply, Bir G. Grey moved the appointment of the following as the committee to,enquire into the Patetere block transactions : — Messrs Bryce, Jones, Kenny, Shepherd, Thomson, Wood, and the mover.—Mr Bryce demured to the proposal and suggested that the: first-named committee should, be appointed with Mr Pitt, and Fulton in place of the two gentlemen who declined fo act—Sir W. Fox and Mr. : Stevens. He questioned the sincerity of. Sir George Grey to have this matter gone into fairly, judging from the names proposed.-—Mr Macandrew said it was a most invidious thing to single out the names of individual members in that way, and he contended, that the names proposed were just as impartial as those proposed by Ministers.—Sir George Grey said that he never thought of party com mittf c, las shown by the names originally proposed. He was ready to accept the name of Mv Pitt, but he could not accept Mr Fulton, as he had seen a disposition on his part to incline to party in connection with committee work.—After the point had been further discussed, Sir George Grey intimated that.he would accept the names suggested by the Native 1 Minister.—Mr Wood said Government was making a great mistake indeed'to make.every question of the kind aparty question, although they carried these measures by two to and. The real fact was ■ there was no party at all in the House.—The motion, as altered by the suggestion of Mr Bryce,, was put and carried. , , \ ".
