OLD GOLDEN CALF.

About twelve feet of the reef being stripped several shots were fired in the lode this afternoon, which broke into the footwall of the lode eighteen inches, a distance of six feet along the bench. The hangingwall was not touched, and the chances are that there are yet a foot or so of quartz inside. Several of the stones broken showed good colors of gold with copper and other first class indications. The quartz has an exceedingly healthy appearance, and as the locality is a good one the chances of coming on a good deposit of gold before the Moanatairi slide is reached are fair.
