The House then went into supply. Resolutions were passed granting a further imprest of £250,C09 and authorising the issue of £200,000 deficiency bills. Crown Lands aud Surrey Departments —Estimates passed with a reduction of £5,C00 proposed by the Hon. Mr Bolleston.
Native Departments-Estimates passed without alteration, after a brief discuasion.
This day. The Volunteer vote was reduced by £90C0, and th- item New Zealand Rifle Association £1500 was struck out on division of 42 to 15, the Government promising to provide on the supplemen* tary estimates for any liabilities the Association had incurred in anticipation of the vote.
In the constabulary and defence vote Mr Bryce proposed a reduction of £9000. It was said it would be necessary for some time to keep an armed force on the West Coast to protect settlers. The vote was agreed to after some discussion. Tbe Public Trust Office, £J2BO, was passed, and the House rose at 1.15.
