A WAIF FBOM THE ATAIAKTA.
A bottle containing a slip of paper was picked up about a mile off the harbour of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on the 26th ult. The leaf, .which, appeared to hare been torn out of a memorandom book, had the following hastily .cowled on it:-« April 17, 1880: On board the training ship Atalanta.—We are sinking in longitude 27deg., latitude 37deg. Any person finding this will please advertise in the daily papers. —John L. Hatchings." New Brunswick has been ravaged by forest fires. Many villages are destjroyed. » . . Eailway matters are active in Canada. The Dominion Government is considering the project matured by Sir Alexaiger Gait with English capitalists, who will undertake the construction of the Canadian-Pacific line on terms very advantageous to the Government. Sir Charles Sapper is about going to England to arrange matters. , - T The break in the Loch of Lochine Canal involves a million dollars loss.
